We remember Captain Joseph Rua and William L. Pedro who tragically lost their lives on November 30th, 1978. The two men were traveling on their tugboat going from Boston to Quonset, RI when they sent out a distress call that night stating they were sinking. The next day, Navy divers discovered the remains of the tugboat under more than sixty feet of water about a mile south of Sakonnet Point in Little Compton, RI. No one was found aboard and there appeared to be no damage to the vessel. The cenotaph names the tug Jovi, however the Standard Times reported it as The Hall Brother. According to the newspaper, the tug had multiple owners throughout its time and there is speculation that the name may or may not have changed.
