Daniel Burns traversed aboard the Two Brothers ship back in 1839. Daniel was a native of Pictou from Nova Scotia, born in 1813. Sometime throughout his young adult life, he found himself on the Two Brothers and journeyed on treacherous seas while facing a multitude of dangers.
Sadly on July 29th in 1839, Daniel passed away only at 26 years old. The cause of his death remains uncertain, however it was recorded he died on board which leaves many to speculate illness and disease could very well be why. His remains were buried at sea shortly after and later on, a cenotaph was erected by Daniel Green and Rufus Hersey in his name. The fine details of Daniel’s fate may never be discerned, however we can still honor his memory by acknowledging his sacrifice along with the many others who have done the same.
