1854 – 1856
Born on January 6th, 1800, Mr. Taylor was a dedicated leader who shaped the growth and development of our community. His service as an alderman on the Board of Alderman and as a member of the school board played a crucial role in the establishment of the New Bedford High School. As a charter member and District Deputy Grand Master of the Acushnet Lodge, he was deeply involved in the local Masonic community.
William H. Taylor found himself on the board of members and later served as the president of the New Bedford Port Society from 1854 to 1856, guiding our church through the still early and vital period of development. Even after his passing in 1880, his commitment to education was further honored in 1898 when the William H. Taylor Elementary School was established in his name.
Over a century later, the New Bedford Port Society is still grateful for William’s contributions to our community and continue to be inspired by his example of civic responsibility and leadership.
