As part of Melville in Our Seaport, the New Bedford Port Society invites you to discover the historic Seamen’s Bethel, the iconic chapel made famous in Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. Step inside one of New Bedford’s most treasured landmarks and explore its rich maritime history through a self guided experience.
On Thursday, August 13, the Seamen’s Bethel will remain open from 5:00 to 7:00 PM following regular hours (10:00 AM to 4:00 PM) for a special evening open house during AHA! New Bedford. Enjoy the unique atmosphere of the chapel after hours and learn why this historic space continues to inspire visitors from around the world.
The Seamen’s Bethel will also be open on Saturday, August 15, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM and 12:00 to 4:00 PM. Visitors are invited to tour the chapel at their own pace, admire the newly installed Herman Melville statue, and experience the places that helped shape one of America’s greatest literary works. A suggested donation is appreciated and helps support the preservation of this National Historic Landmark for future generations.
