The Wreck of the Mentor An Evening with Author Eric Jay Dolin

October 9 • 6:00 PM • Seamen’s Bethel

Join the New Bedford Port Society for an evening with acclaimed maritime historian and bestselling author Eric Jay Dolin, as he discusses his newest book, The Wreck of the Mentor: A True Story of Death, Despair, and Deliverance in the Age of Sail.

The story begins in New Bedford in 1832, when the American whaleship Mentor set out on a voyage that would end in a dramatic shipwreck in the western Pacific. What followed was a remarkable story of survival, captivity, cultural encounters, and rescue.

Dolin will share the fascinating history behind the voyage, the people aboard the Mentor, and the broader world of the nineteenth-century whaling industry and Age of Sail. The evening will offer a unique opportunity to explore a remarkable chapter of New Bedford’s maritime past in the historic Seamen’s Bethel.

Following the presentation, guests will have an opportunity to meet Eric Jay Dolin, ask questions, and learn more about The Wreck of the Mentor.
