Isaac Sanders

We’d like to pay tribute to Isaac Sanders from New Burgh, New York. Isaac was a valued steersman who ventured on the Bark J. D. Thompson in 1857. Unlike modern times, common ailments were more prevalent back then which led to serious health conditions and even death. It was on January 20th of that year that Isaac had developed a horrid case of small pox and unfortunately within the following day he had succumbed to his illness. Wanting to pay their respects to Isaac, the crew had decided to bury him at sea and a cenotaph was made in his name shortly after.
