The tragedy of the Yankee Rose has impacted us deeply at the Seamen’s Bethel. It reminds us that behind every vessel and every trip to sea, there are families and a community that care deeply.
The New Bedford Port Society has always stood alongside the fishing community. For generations, the Seamen’s Bethel has been a sanctuary for fishermen and their families; a place where people come not only in moments of grief, but also in moments of hope, remembrance, and support.
While the fishing industry has evolved over time, the role of the Bethel remains the same; to be here for the maritime community. Whether it’s memorial services, quiet moments of reflection, or gathering to support one another, this place continues to serve as a spiritual and emotional anchor for New Bedford’s fishing families.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during these difficult times.
God Bless,
Phil Oliveira
President, New Bedford Port Society
